PROJECT

3rd Street Bungalow

This project is probably our all-time favorite at Wright & Son. What made it so special is that it started with a big dream for a building that wasn’t even a house yet.

When we first walked through it, the building had large clay block exterior walls, very limited space upstairs, and — believe it or not — it didn’t even have a kitchen. Turning it into a comfortable, functional home was going to take some serious creativity.

The homeowners came to us with an initial design plan, which gave us a good starting point. But as we looked closer, it became clear the layout wasn’t quite going to give them the space they really needed. Together, we began reworking the design to better fit both the house and their vision for how they wanted to live in it.

We kept the idea of adding a master bedroom but redesigned the addition so it fit more naturally with the structure of the home. From there, we extended the garage and developed a solution for the limited upstairs space so we could add another bathroom. To make all of that work, the first-floor layout had to be completely rethought, including relocating the staircase and making it a central feature of the home.

For the exterior, the homeowners wanted a timeless look. We went with white LP siding and trim paired with black shingle and standing seam roofs, black windows, and black doors. The result blends classic style with a clean, modern feel.

Inside, the finishes really make the house stand out. Dark stained hardwood floors run through most of the home, giving it warmth and character. The bathrooms feature beautiful mosaic tile floors, and the kitchen backsplash adds another layer of detail. All of the cabinetry throughout the house — including the kitchen, bathrooms, closets, and pantry — is custom-built walnut with inset doors. The master bathroom includes a large walk-in shower with a built-in bench, creating a comfortable and luxurious space. Throughout the home, the finishes tie together with black Mist honed granite countertops and brushed gold plumbing fixtures.

At the time, this was the largest and most involved project we had ever taken on. From the early design challenges to the final details, it pushed us to think creatively every step of the way.

But projects like this are why we love what we do. Seeing the homeowners’ excitement and satisfaction when everything was complete made every challenge worth it. Moments like that remind us that the work we do is about much more than construction — it’s about helping people bring their vision for home to life.
