Idczak Home Renovation
When the Idczaks first came to us, they weren’t looking to move—they loved their home. They just needed it to work better for where they were in life.
Their biggest challenge was the stairs. With their bedroom on the second floor, getting up and down each day was becoming more difficult. On top of that, their existing bedroom didn’t give them the storage they needed, both in the closet and the bathroom.
At first, they assumed the solution was to build an addition on the back of the house and create a brand-new first-floor suite.
But once we walked through the projected cost of that addition together, it became clear there was a better way.
Instead of expanding the home, we looked at how we could make better use of the space they already had. By reworking the first-floor dining room and an underused portion of the living room, we were able to create a new bedroom suite complete with a full bathroom and a walk-through closet. We closed off the doorway between the kitchen and dining room and added a new wall to define the bathroom and closet areas.
The result is a space that feels both practical and comfortable. The bathroom includes a barrier-free shower for easy access, a quartz vanity top, heated tile floors, and a pocket door to maximize space. The walk-through closet was custom-designed with built-in shelving, drawers, and shoe storage, all thoughtfully arranged around the existing window.
In the end, the Idczaks got exactly what they needed—a safe, functional first-floor living space—without the cost and disruption of building an addition. More importantly, they were able to stay in the home they love with confidence that it will continue to support them for years to come.
