Rankin Kitchen & Bathroom
This wasn’t your typical remodel.
The homeowner came in with a clear vision—no designer, no guesswork—just a strong idea of what they wanted their kitchen and bathroom to become. Our job was to take that vision and make it work in the real world.
One of the biggest challenges was the home’s existing heated ceilings. They worked with the original layout, but once we introduced recessed lighting into both the kitchen and bathroom, portions of that system had to be removed. That left us with a key question: how do we maintain the same level of comfort after losing that heat?
We shifted the solution from above to below.
In the bathroom, we installed floor heating beneath the tile for consistent, noticeable warmth. In the kitchen, we used thin heating mats under the luxury vinyl plank flooring to help replace the lost heat from the ceiling. In many ways, it ended up being a more practical and comfortable solution for everyday use.
The kitchen became a standout feature of the home. Light gray shaker-style cabinets, white countertops, and a soft gray backsplash keep the space bright and clean, while the vinyl plank flooring adds durability and warmth. A black island and bold wall color bring contrast and personality, giving the space a modern feel that still feels livable.
In the bathroom, we blended classic and modern elements. The shower walls and tub surround use oversized subway-style tile, paired with a hexagonal mosaic on the shower floor and a herringbone pattern on the main floor. A pedestal sink with a quartz countertop and a bold wall color tie everything together, adding just enough character without overwhelming the space.
Projects like this aren’t always easy to live through. A full kitchen and bathroom remodel at the same time brings disruption—noise, dust, and a temporary loss of routine. But when it all comes together, it’s worth it.
In the end, the finished space reflects exactly what the homeowner set out to create—only better. What started as a limitation with the existing heated ceilings became an opportunity to improve comfort and function throughout the home.
